When we first boarded the Crown Princess in Los Angeles my legs were in so much pain that simple standing and walking was almost unbearable. The first day at sea, I saw and advertisement regarding acupuncture and wondered if that could be a solution for my pain/ after consultation I decided to give it a try and that was one of the best decisions I’ve made. After my first treatment I could see some results. At the end of my designed treatment plan I am virtually pain free. Even ailments that were not specifically treated have shown improvement.

I had acupuncture for sciatica from disc herniations about 20 years ago as little else was helping CPT, exercise , yoga and I refused to take OTC or RX medications to control the pain. As a health care professional, I was aware of the applications for acupuncture in China as anesthesia for heart surgery, brain surgery, birthing etc.. and was willing to try a “complementary medicine” approach to resolve my periodic but severe low back pain and sciatica. For about two-month prior to this cruise, I had been experiencing severe low back pain and sciatica.

I scheduled my first session with Martina Sturm on day 2 of my 5-day cruise. It was my first cruise and the longest time. I would be away from 2 young boys. I could not sleep the night before due to stress, anxiety, and sea sickness. Martina immediately treated me within my first back to back sessions. I felt so relaxed and anxiety free the same day! I continued to see Martina each day. I was able to relax during each session by taking a nap.

I have noticed and improvement with my anxiety in general. I have also had no sea sickness since my first session! I was able to enjoy my entire trip thanks to Martina.

I highly recommend acupuncture as an improvement in quality of life and well-being. I look forward to continuing treatment with acupuncture when I return home.

Whilst the tingling in my hands and feet have eased at times the main improvement has been to my right leg. Over the recent years it has got thinner and less mobile and my balance was not so good. I had to be careful how I walked to avoid tripping up. My Doctor said that it was unlikely that they could cure it and that I would have to live with it. Since the acupuncture sessions I have seen a vast improvement in my right leg! I can walk OK without the fear of tripping and can even jog and run, something I avoided previously. Walking or jogging up and down stairs landing on my right leg is not a problem and the occasional limp I had seems to have disappeared. It is my intention to continue with this in the UK and discuss ways forward with my doctor.

Having suffered for over 40 years with a back problem and recently gone through a particularly painful episode, I wondered what else could I try to help me.

I have tried many different types of treatment either prescribed by my GP or independently. some have helped to a degree.

Seeing acupuncture advertised on board at the Lotus Spa (Crown Princess) I decided to book a consultation.

Martina was very thorough asking questions and explained everything.

Singing on for a course of treatment (18 sessions) I was, I must admit skeptical about the outcome.

However, I can say in all honesty that acupuncture has helped, both my posture and mobility have improved so far.

I realize after 40 years there will be no quick fix but I have seen sufficient improvement to follow up when I am at home.

What started as treatment for weight loss evolved into so much more. Multiple treatments helped with sciatica, weight loss and constipation. During the source of my session, Martina was able to incorporate additional treatment for overactive bladder and constipation. When I developed an upper respiratory infection she also treated that.

I feel better than I have in years. My sciatica is practically non- existent. Overactive bladder is much improved (I can sleep all night) and constipation is resolved.

I started a detox program in conjunction with the acupuncture and I am pleased with the results this far. I am looking forward to using herbs and continuing my program at home.

Martina has been great to work with. I started out doing acupuncture for weight loss. Within a couple of days, I was developing sea sickness, which she treated me for. My nausea went away almost immediately. I was trying to use the stairs more and re-injured and old knee problem. It happened right before my weight loss treatment, so Martina treated my right knee and it worked immediately too. I could even wear heels for formal night and pictures! I will know more about the weight loss after I start taking the herbs, etc. which are being sent to me when I get home.

A very personable and caring doctor who REALLY gets results. Her skills and expertise cleared my lungs of viscous mucosa lodged there for years. She has alleviated the stiffness and pain in my fingers and I can now hold a pen though my penmanship is sketchy.

Martina treated me to relieve the burning pain in my knee that prevented me from getting a good night’s sleep. she has been successful even though I have still climbed and descended stairs on various excursions. Relief without more pills!!

I came onboard with severe arthritis in both knees. As I’d had great pain in my left knee a feed weeks before I left, I did many things to improve this. Pain was mostly alleviated but I still walked with difficulty, my leg was stiff and I couldn’t bend my knee, I also wore a knee brace or compression bandage support. My doctor made sure I had many of supplies of anti- inflammatory and pain killers!

I was dubious at first to embark in a daily dose of acupuncture, but Martina and I quickly developed a close bond and I have to say that for most of the trip (18 days) I have not worn my knee support and found I didn’t need to take any drugs. The part I love the most is that I now don’t walk with a limp either! If I ever find that I am, it is very slight.

I there is an angel on board, her name is Martina. The first day of the cruise, my back went out and I was in a lot of pain. She helped me immediately. Life changing event. After a lifetime of suffering from motion sickness, I decided to try the acupuncture the first day before we set sail.

On this 7-day cruise – I have:

Rode in the back seat of a bus a train, a small boat, river float and of course the cruise ship, all without “patches” or drugs.

One week prior to our trip my left hip started hurting. The morning we left for our vacation I was in a lot of pain – It hurt to walk. We heard from our bus driver of her experience she with the acupuncturist on her Alaska cruise. By the time we boarded the ship the pain was so bad I should have asked for a wheelchair.

That was it, there was no question, I had to give acupuncture a try – I am so glad I did. I was able to get to dinner with my husband

We came on board with no intention of seeing an acupuncturist but were guided to her by other crew members by chance.

I have prostate cancer and all the medication leads to lots of side effects, dry skin, hair loss, fatigue, hot flashes and frequent urination, especially at night.

A few painless treatments and I feel so much better. Skin is better, more energy, hot flashes cut by 70% and a lot less trips to the bathroom. Too early to tell for the hair loss. Great results.

My brother (Captain Tom) came on this cruise knowing we would have a good time and spend some quality time together. But meeting Dr. Martina for acupuncture most likely changed my life. I’ve had restless legs for over 10 years and have been a smoker most of my life. I was accidentally injured prior to my cruise in an accidental fall that sprained my knee and misaligned my body.

I was in therapy for 4 weeks and decided to fly from GA to Seattle to catch my cruise against “my” adviser you know.

On my arrival aboard for 7-night Alaskan trip. I began to spasm in my left thigh and could barely walk. What an unexpected “bonus” to have on our first cruise ever and to have had such a wonderful experience with Dr. Sturm.

Having never experienced acupuncture and arriving on board with a lot of pain in my hip, groin and leg, I was so pleased to “try anything” that would help. I came aboard with a nagging heel spur which was problematic for the prior 7 weeks. After a short consultation with Dr. Martina Sturm I scheduled 10 treatments during the 7 day cruise.
